a lot of people are vegan and have pets. does that mean the pet should be vegan as well? what are your thoughts? i know different animals have different requirements. what do you think?
I must confess I feel
very confused about this. I have no pets (and I have never had any pets.) My parents have three very loved shelter-rescue dogs.
I'm trying to become vegan (from being vegetarian) because I am really concerned about animal cruelty and I don't want animals to suffer. If I were to adopt a cat or a dog, then won't I still be contributing to animal-suffering every time I purchase their pet-food?
So I am not sure about that.
Since I feel so lost on these issues, my current solution is just to not have a pet at all.
However, it might be awesome to adopt a herbivore pet that needs a home.

We have some parrots and they're vegan, though we really would love a dog, but don't want to force veganism onto an animal that is naturally carnivorous.
I'd love to have a dog too! I'm just wondering how to handle the pet-food situation in a cruelty-free way?

Currently thinking of a pig alternative. They can be trained in a lot of the same ways as a mutt and be just as loving.

Pigs are adorable! And apparently so intelligent too! However, pigs are omnivores like dogs I believe?
