I stopped by Mama's Tamales today, near MacArthur Park, for some of their awesome vegan tamales. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are now carrying Daiya cheese! Daiya cheese can now be substituted in any item on the menu that contains dairy cheese (except for the cheese and jalapeno tamale). This means that you can now have delicious, vegan ENCHILADAS!!!
I ordered the mini quesadilla with spinach and mushrooms and it was sooo good. It was creamy, rich and decadent--everything a quesadilla should be! I should warn you that it was a little oily and soggy, though. However, the sogginess may have been due to the moisture in the mushrooms and spinach. I'm sure that the oiliness was due to the Daiya, of course.

At any rate, it was delicious and definitely took me back to my pre-gan days.
So, next time you're in the area (or better yet, make a special trip) head over there for some cheesy goodness, in addition to their yummy tamales. As with many small businesses, Mama's is struggling to stay afloat in this economy (my friendly, vegan server informed me of this). So, please show them some vegan love and stop by.
