I figured as much. I just thought you might have the inside scoop. My tummy is anxiously awaiting their arrival :) Thanks!

My wife, me and a couple of other friends stopped at Baby Cakes last night to sample their cupcakes, corn bread and other offerings. Here is the lowdown:

Pros: :D
1)They are Vegan
2)They offer Gluten-Free options
3)They offer Vegan donuts (which are a rarity)

Cons: :|
1)Parking
2)Everything I tried was either too dry or had a very strong taste of flour
3)Scary neighborhood at night time (***don’t get lost around this neighborhood trying to find parking***)
4)They ran out of donuts (they told us they ran out of them even before they had a chance to place them on their display case)

Thanks for the great info @...---...
Do you have a suggestion if when would be the time of the day to go there?
I want to try what's on there menu.

OMG! They serve milk?? :o

I did notice a coffee maker machine of some sorts there. I wouldn't imagine they'd use real cream or milk since they are supposedly Vegan.

We went to Babycakes yesterday and have to report that the place is adorabe. The decor is really inviting, like a bakery that jumped out of a Domino mag spread. I think it's the best part of our experience.

We tried the Red Velvet and Chocolate with Vanilla frosting cupcakes. The cupcakes are like really cute paperweights. They weigh about a pound each and are drrrryyy. Maybe it's the spelt flour they use? The frosting was good and it helped get the cake part down your throat. We didn't finish either one. The brownie bites were o.k. and much sweeter than the cupcakes, at 99 cents they were the only bargain and definitely worth trying. The cinnamon doughnut was my favorite. It was perfect with a cup of coffee.

The service was meh. With a name like Babycakes, we expected happy campers working there. Only one woman behind the counter cracked a smile at us. We heard people in the line having to drag the "whats the difference between gluten free and spelt" answer out of the girls. If it's such a hassle to explain, write it real cute on the glass like you do the menu.

Next time we're in the area we might stop by but, it's not a destination.

As our non-vegan friends put it after they went "We feel so sorry for you vegans that have to eat those." :)

this place looks like a one time deal. if the atmosphere is fun I'd give it a go. even with bad hired help.
