Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a good vegan hot-cocoa mix?

I'm looking for the powder sort you add to soy milk to make a quick hot chocolate to drink. (To go with my vegan donuts and vegan cupcakes that I now purchase  )

I'm actually looking for a mocha mix as well. I have a chocolate-mocha powder mix from Vons right now, but it is milk-based, so I'd like to replace it with a vegan version.

I tried Whole Foods, and bought some sort of non-milk cocoa mix the other day, the tin is purple and has a cartoon polar-bear on it I think. However, that stuff wasn't very good unfortunately (and tastes a bit strange) so I won't buy it again.

Do you guys have other hot-cocoa powders you buy online or from somewhere in Los Angeles?

Thanks for any help!

You can make your own mix and just store it for when you need it. Cocoa powder, soy milk powder, and sugar. Just add water. Or leave out the soy milk powder and just add soy milk.

^ Thanks, I will try that out, I hadn't even thought of making a HC mix that way.

That's what I'd do. I'd start with a vanilla almond milk, a scant tablespoon of cocoa powder per serving, and maybe a teaspoon of agave syrup or maple syrup, put it all in a glass jar with a screw-top lid, and shake the fuck out of it. Then heat it.

There are also chocolate rice/soy/almond milks out there that you can heat up. I don't know if that would be the same.

For mocha maybe a little instant coffee powder along with the cocoa?

^ Thanks Suasoria, yea I think I will try mixing little powders and sugars till I arrive on the correct proportions to make a vegan mocha mix.

I've never tried heating soy chocolate milk, but I will give that a try as well.

Suasoria you are genius, I think it is very nice recipe you had given to us. I will sure try it today. Making mocha by adding a little coffee powder along with the cocoa will be more yummy. Keep doing good job.
